Friday 4th January 2019 - Monarch Aircraft Engineering falls into administration

Birmingham based engineering arm of collapsed airline Monarch has gone bust with the loss of 408 jobs.

Monarch Aircraft Engineering Limited (MAEL) is "unsustainable in its present form", administrators KPMG said.

Attempts to restructure the firm - taken over in October by Greybull Capital - had failed, KPMG confirmed.

The union Unite accused Luton airport-based MAEL of failing to consult employees before the collapse and said it was taking legal action.

Airline Monarch, which was also owned by Greybull, collapsed in 2017, leading to more than 1,800 workers being made redundant and the flights and holidays of about 860,000 people being cancelled.

"Following the administration of other Monarch entities in 2017, MAEL sought to build its customer base to replace the loss of business from the former airline," David Pike, restructuring partner at KPMG, said.

Monday 2nd October 2017 - Farewell Monarch Airlines! All flights cancelled as airline collapses

Monarch Airlines has sadly ceased trading leaving 110,000 customers stranded abroad. All flights from the UK have been cancelled and will not be rescheduled.About 2,100 Monarch employees face losing their jobs. Administrators and unions said they hoped many could be taken on by other airlines that are interested in buying up parts of Monarch’s business.

The 4am announcement that Britain’s longest-surviving airline brand had been placed into administration meant many passengers arrived at airports on Monday morning, only to find their flights cancelled and holiday plans in tatters. Some were informed just minutes before they were due to board planes.

The UK’s biggest peacetime repatriation is under way after the collapse of Monarch Airlines, with 110,000 customers to be brought home on specially chartered planes.

Monarch Launches Summer 2017 Schedule from Birmingham Airport

Monarch, a leading UK independent airline group, today announces the launch of its Summer schedule for 2017 with flights and holidays now on sale from Birmingham Airport. The airline has released more than 90% of its summer schedule with further flights to be added in the coming months.

All Monarch holidays can be booked with just a £59 deposit (when booking 10 weeks or more in advance). Customers can also take advantage of using Monarch’s Holiday Concierge service. This personal service is on hand before, during and after your holiday.

Further flights, holidays and additional routes will be added to the Summer 2017 schedule in the coming months.
